Windsurfing Sails

Summer is fast coming along, so you know what that means.  It’s time to head off to the beach and enjoy the sun and the waves!  There’s so much you and your family can do during the summer that you best be getting on with your travel plans and start packing your bags.  Likewise, if you’re into extreme sports and would like to try something interesting and daring at the beach, one of the most popular sports that you can do is windsurfing.  This is a water sport in which you get to ride the waves using a 2 to 4 meter long windsurf board.  The board is powered and driven by the wind on a sail, so if you’re planning on trying the sport out you have to make sure the windsurfing sails are in good to excellent condition.  Also, if you’re still a beginner at windsurfing, you should be able to develop your balance and stability to keep from falling off the board whenever a strong wave comes by.

Now, if you’re a self-proclaimed pro at windsurfing, this definitely will be a great time to prepare your windsurf board and get yourself new windsurfing sails.  There are so many windsurfing sails to choose from in a variety of colors, designs, and styles that you’ll be able to choose which one fits your surfing style and technique the best.  But as a pro, you know better than anyone else that your performance as a windsurfer depends on how you take care of your equipment, especially the windsurfing sail.  Before considering in buying a new windsurfing sail, it is also important to know how to clean and maintain your sail to prevent it from wearing out too easily.  Here are some tips to help you out:

Most windsurfing sails are made out of nylon, so make sure that you provide a smooth and clean work area for yourself so that it’ll be easy to clean and store your windsurfing sail without unnecessary dirt messing it up all the time.

As much as possible, don’t use strong soaps and detergents when cleaning windsurfing sails.  This is because these detergents can be too strong and harsh for the sail cloth.  A better alternative would be mild ivory soap or a detergent with neutral pH so that you can just remove the dirt and sand gently and effectively.

- When scrubbing your sail, always remember to use a toothbrush or any brush with soft bristles to avoid damaging the sail.

- Always use fresh warm water when rinsing the sail to be able to get rid of hardened sand and salt.

- Overall, the way you windsurf depends not only on how you maneuver your board and sail over the water but also how well you maintain your windsurfing equipment.
